If you want to use MetaMask with the Binance Smart Chain, here’s an easy step-by-step guide to make it simple. In fact, there are 2 ways to add Binance Smart Chain to Metamask including manual and automatic. But if you’re new to it, WikiBinance recommends that you should install manual mode. Later, when you are proficient in using it, set the automatic mode quickly!
Manual method to add Binance Smart Chain to Metamask
Step 1: Click on the reverse arrow on the MainNet Ethereum network line and then optionally customize the RPC.
The next steps will depend on whether you want to set up MainNet or Testnet.
Note: You should copy the following parameters to another app before starting. For example: the Notes app on Mac, many people will wonder why they do so because copying to another line is easy to do all over again. To optimizing your time, you should take note of this.
Step 2: On the official MainNet network
- Network Name: Binance Smart Chain
- New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/
- Chain ID: 56
- Symbol (optional): BNB
- Block Explorer URL (optional): https://bscscan.com
Or on the Testnet:
- Network Name: Binance Smart Chain Testnet
- New RPC URL: https://data-seed-prebsc-1-s1.binance.org:8545/
- Chain ID: 97
- Symbol (optional): BNB
- Block Explorer URL (optional): https://testnet.bscscan.com
We’re going to use the MainNet in this tutorial, but you’ll probably be connecting to the Testnet. Don’t worry because it is quite easy to do.
You fill in the parameters as above I have already taken notes and then save. Binance Smart Chain Metamask network results appear and you will have the main view as shown below. As you can see now BNB is the default currency and the units are no longer denominated in ETH. But BSC and Ethereum share the same network address.
On the BSC Testnet, after adding you can come here https://testnet.binance.org/faucet-smart, ask for a BNB to test if you want.
On the MetaMask app: When you click on the network’s name you probably won’t see the Custom RPC as above. You do the following: Open the app > tap the 3 dashes at the top > Settings > Networks > Add Network. Then you can fill in the information as above!
Automatic method to add Binance Smart Chain to Metamask
First of all, you have to access https://chainlist.org/
- Click Connect Wallet to connect to MetaMask wallet
- Type “bsc” in the search box
- Select the network you want to connect to (MainNet or Testnet) > press Add To MetaMask
On metaMask app: Open the app > tap 3 dashes > select Browser (Browser) > paste this link into the browser bar: https://chainlist.org/. Then you do the same as 3 steps above.
Note: It is the browser inside the MetaMask app!
Basic errors and how to fix them
Invalid Custom Network
Since updating to v8.1.3, from time to time, metaMask wallet will report this error.
The fix is as follows: In the Binance Smart Chain => Settings => Networks => select Binance Smart Chain. Then edit Chain ID from 56 to 0x38.
Note: Depending on the language of MetaMask, you do the same.
Unable to fetch string code. Is your RPC URL accurate?
Network congestion results in this error and it is quite easy to fix by replacing the other RPC!
How to buy BNB on MetaMask
BNB can’t buy on MetaMask wallets, but it can move from elsewhere to examples from Binance. It’s both fast and cheap.
ETH can only be purchased on MetaMask wallets with a credit card. But you shouldn’t do so because of long trading, high fees are and the slippage.
